Xavier CAPET Toward a low carbon culture in academic research

Invited by Maria Helena Cruz de Carvalho & Laurent Bourdieu - Green Committee

2 pm to 3.30 pm

The seminar of Xavier Capet (LOCEAN, IPSL) will take place via videoconference.

Abstract
Climate change and the ongoing ecological crisis pose unprecedented challenges to human societies. Public mobilization against climate change has recently increased and many concrete initiatives are being undertaken. However, France, like many other countries remains far behind its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
After a brief presentation of the climate situation in which we find ourselves, the talk will focus on some of the reflections and actions underway in the (academic) research community, aimed at modifying our research practices in depth to respond to the climate emergency. In particular, it will draw on the example of LOCEAN. The carbon footprint of LOCEAN will be presented (elements of methodology and results), as well as the measures under discussion to reduce the lab CO2 emissions.
